May 4 2024 Annual Blueberry Cooking Contest Join us for the 2024 Annual Blueberry Cooking Contest for Youth and Adults on May 4, 2024! Cost is FREE to participate. Entries are welcome from men (18+), women (18+), and youth (17 and under). See flyer and registration form for more complete information. Adult winners will receive: 1st ($50), 2nd ($35), 3rd ($25); children/youth winners receive: 1st ($15), 2nd ($10), 3rd ($5). Contest sponsored by Jay's IGA and UGA Extension, Bacon County. May 8 Lunch and Learn: Beef Cuts Join Pike County Extension in 2024 dive into Homestead Skills with monthly, virtual Lunch and Learns hosted on the second Wednesday of each month (with the exception of holidays). May 13 - May 14 ServSafe Manager's Training We provide Georgia’s food service industry with food safety training using the National and Georgia Restaurant Associations ServSafe® Manager program. We hold the ServSafe® Manager course and test multiple times per year and proctor additional exams by request. We can also provide ServSafe® Food Handler training. The ServSafe® Manager training includes the latest textbook, study materials, exam session, light refreshments, and 1 ½ days of training and review leading up to testing. The cost is $150.00 per person. Registration is required. Textbooks will be available for pick-up at time of registration at the Extension Office. A new study from the University of Georgia found that children from all walks of life improved their diet quality when they ate school-prepared lunches following the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act nutritional guidelines instead of home-prepared lunches.
