4-H Youth Development

Murray County 4-H is a unique educational organization open to all youth of Murray County in grades k-12. The program provides young people with knowledge, leadership skills and recreational activities not available elsewhere. We teach youth through "hands on" learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, foods and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship. We also assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing citizens. The Cloverbuds program is for 4-H'ers kindergarten through fourth grade; Cloverleaf is for grades 4-6 and our Junior/Senior program is for 7-12 grade.

 


Who Can Join 4-H and How Can I Join ?

All youth, grades K - 12 residing in Murray County, Ga. can join 4-H. Students in 5th and 6th grades can attend 4-H club meetings in the schools.

Murray County Extension/4-H is adding an online registration option for Events. You will be able to register and pay by Credit Card for events once you have completed the process to create an account. You will be able to create a single account for the whole family, just list your children separately.  Please click the link below and follow Instructions to register your youth(s) in our events. If you wish to pay by Check or Cash you will still need to come to our office to pay the registration for your youth for each event, they will be wait-listed until payment is received.

This is a core program that showcases the work and success of Murray County 4-H'ers through presentations and portfolios on numerous topics. Members compete against their peers at the local, district and state levels in an effort to master their project.

Environmental Education

The Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program is one of the nation’s largest and oldest providers of local environmental education, serving over 4 5,000 people annually. The research-based curriculum provides hands-on learning experiences aligned with Georgia Performance Standards.


Project S.A.F.E.  

Project S.A.F.E. (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) is a curriculum based and designed to assist young people in personal development, establish a personal environmental ethic and explore life-long vocational and avocational activities.

Step Up and Lead

For over 100 years, Georgia 4-H has provided young people with leadership training and opportunities to apply what they have learned. This half day conference focus is on cultivating the leadership skills of elementary and middle school students and is designed for students participating in Student Council, Beta Club, 4-H Officers, Safety Patrol and other emerging student leaders. Older elementary school students as well as middle school students are encouraged to attend (grades 4-8).

  • May 9 Union/Towns Master Naturalist Program Series 1 The Master Naturalist Program covers natural resource topics such as native plants, invasive species, birds, tree ID, watershed management, mushrooms, pollinators and more. This Master Naturalist training is broken up into spring and fall series. To be a certified Master Naturalist, attendance in in both series is required. Classes will be on Thursdays. Cost is $150 for each series.

  • May 13 - May 14 ServSafe Manager's Training We provide Georgia’s food service industry with food safety training using the National and Georgia Restaurant Associations ServSafe® Manager program. We hold the ServSafe® Manager course and test multiple times per year and proctor additional exams by request. We can also provide ServSafe® Food Handler training. The ServSafe® Manager training includes the latest textbook, study materials, exam session, light refreshments, and 1 ½ days of training and review leading up to testing. The cost is $150.00 per person. Registration is required. Textbooks will be available for pick-up at time of registration at the Extension Office.
